Celebrate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812, a war that took place mainly in the Great Lakes region and along the Detroit river which continued the battle for the founding of our nation, the United States of America.

During that conflict, the British captured Fort Detroit, and decimated the settlements of Frenchtown (now called Monroe). During that period, Judge Augustus Brevoort Woodward, the only representative of the U.S. government remaining in Detroit during the British occupation, became a hero to the French inhabitants, those American citizens who stayed to defend their homes.

Learn this story, and more, by bringing the dance troupe "Belles & Bachelors of Fort Detroit" to your celebration or event, so to find out more about the "war that finally forged our country".

Re-live the Pacification Ball, a grand assembly given by the leading citizens in Detroit to heal the wounds of the bitter fight with their British neighbors and relatives in Canada after the Treaty of Ghent was signed in 1814.

Enjoy the authentic dances of the period - The popular English & French country dances, the elaborate Quadrilles & Cotillions, and the lewd and lascivious waltz craze introduced from Germany to the high societies of Paris and London.

Re-live the entertainment of the Federalist Period with the talented performers of DANCE THROUGH HISTORY dressed in period costume, and accompanied by fiddle, fife, and drum!

This performance was created by dance historian Harriet Berg, who created the Madame Cadillac Dance Theatre, the popular touring show which tells the story of the early French settlers.

For 20 years, Mrs. Berg was noted as a contemporary dance choreographer, teacher, and director, before she decided to combine her two passions, history and dance. She studied with the leading authorities (see listed below) in 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th century dance, and ultimately formed the DANCE THROUGH HISTORY theatre company to bring her several companies under one umbrella.

Belles & Bachelors specifically wishes to thank Cathy Stephens, a noted Canadian authority of 19th century dance, and who established the Grand Traditions company, in Ann Arbor, for sharing her extensive research and knowledge in our field.

Belles & Bachelors of Fort Detroit can provide suitable entertainment programs for classrooms, school assemblies, fairs, festivals & private parties! We can arrange a program to fit your budget and your space.

Make it a real celebration of the War of 1812 with the stories, costumes, dances and music of the period. Invite the Belles & Bachelors of Fort Detroit to your event!
